Selamat Datang Indonesia!

Selamat Pagi!

Good morning, indeed. I woke up at 4AM, which serves me right I guess for passing out at 8:30 last night. It has been a whirlwind few days so far here in Jakarta. After a tremendously long voyage (about 45 hours), the other 30 English Teaching Assistants and I arrived on Sunday morning. I knew being in a different time zone would be strange, but it is still a wonder to me that most of the world as I know it is living a different day altogether than I am most of the time.

We are doing orientation things in the hotel and getting to know one another and the local Jakarta bustle.

Converter - $1
Dinner - $1.50
10 minute cab ride - $1
Knowing I will not go completely broke this year - priceless.

So it turns out I am headed for SMA Dwi Warna, an Islamic boarding school in Bogor, just south of Jakarta. The school has a website, smadwiwarna.net, and appears promising. Certainly the location could not be better with near immediate proximity to the Fathony's and the travel capital of Indonesia. I am infinitely more visitable now - you should come! But not until September 26th or so (I will be in orientation classes in Bandung for most of September).

I will mail my visa application off to New York tomorrow.
